The NZIV Valuation Conference 2026 will bring valuers from across Aotearoa | New Zealand together for a focused programme of professional development, forward looking discussion, and meaningful connection. As the valuation profession navigates regulatory change, emerging technologies, and evolving market conditions, our collective strength lies in building capability and sharing insight across the sector. Held at the stunning New Zealand International Convention Centre which is scheduled to open in February 2026.
This year’s theme, Strengthening Our Skills. Shaping Our Future, reflects our commitment to technical excellence, informed practice, and the long-term sustainability of the valuation profession in New Zealand. Through practical workshops, expert led sessions, and opportunities to engage with colleagues, attendees will broaden their knowledge, explore current and emerging issues, and consider the opportunities and challenges ahead.

Speakers
Sir John Kirwan, a former All Black, mental-health advocate, broadcaster, and high-performance leader. He represented New Zealand in 63 Tests, scoring 35 tries, and later coached internationally, including roles with Italy, Japan, and the All Blacks.
After publicly sharing his own experience with depression, Sir John became a leading voice for mental wellbeing, founding the Mitey programme and working with organisations to build resilient, psychologically safe cultures.
He is also the co-founder of Groov, a wellbeing platform helping people and teams build sustainable daily habits. Today, Sir John works internationally with leaders, teams, and brands, blending elite performance, lived experience, and clear communication to help people perform well under pressure.
Ben Taylor is the Executive Vice President of Commercial & Production for Virtual Eye, the sports division of Animation Research Ltd (ARL) in Dunedin, New Zealand. He leads both business strategy and creative production for a global portfolio of major sports broadcasts, helping bring next-generation 3D graphics, real-time animation, and data-driven storytelling to audiences worldwide.
Virtual Eye specialises in real-time visualization and immersive broadcast-enhancement tools for golf, racing, sailing, cricket, baseball, and more. Under Ben’s leadership, the company has expanded its remote-production capabilities through a sophisticated studio in New Zealand – allowing teams to support live broadcasts around the world while reducing travel, integrating developers directly into live production, and training future broadcast talent.
Ben plays a central role in the organisation’s commercial strategy, negotiating and maintaining long-term partnerships with global clients including the PGA Tour, MLB, Fox, IMG, Paramount, and Comcast. His ability to bridge technology, creativity, and commercial value has helped strengthen Virtual Eye’s position as a leader in broadcast innovation.
Raised in Dunedin in a family rooted in innovation (his father, Sir Ian Taylor, founded ARL), Ben developed a global perspective early in life. He graduated summa cum laude from Florida Southern College and later traveled through more than 30 countries, deepening his understanding of production, technology, and cross-cultural collaboration. Under his leadership, Virtual Eye earned its fourth Sports Emmy in 2025 for pioneering the first use of augmented graphics over a live, moving drone.
Ben lives in Dunedin with his wife Samantha and their three children. Driven by curiosity, collaboration, and innovation, he remains committed to advancing the future of sports storytelling.
Economic Speaker and Writer
Tony has been working as an economist in New Zealand since returning from Sydney in 1987 – initially with Westpac, then a share broking firm, then 26 years with BNZ of which almost 25 years was as Chief Economist. His focus has always been on translating developments and trends in the economics sphere into a language which people can understand.
Tony's aim: “To help Kiwis make better decisions for their businesses, investments, home purchases, and people by writing about the economy in an easy to understand manner.”
Louise, Principal Property Consultant in Christchurch, has 30 years’ experience in land dealings, including 17 years at WSP. She specialises in acquiring land for infrastructure projects under the Public Works Act 1981, delivering acquisitions, land entry agreements and compulsory processes for major NZ Transport Agency projects.
Crown‑accredited in acquisition and compensation assessment, Louise provides technical guidance and support to WSP property consultants nationwide.
Her earlier career included roles in resource management, conservation concessions and tenure review for central and regional government.
Partner- Dentons
Matthew is a partner and Business Unit Leader of the Dentons real estate team. He has over 20 years’ experience, particularly with the Public Works Act, infrastructure projects and public law.
As a Public Works Act specialist, Matthew is uniquely positioned to advise government agencies on the property issues associated with large infrastructure projects, in particular the acquisition of land for new roads and the assessment of compensation. He has acted for the Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency on almost every major State Highway project in the North Island since 2004, including the Waterview Connection, Wellington Northern Corridor, Waikato Expressway and Auckland Northern Corridor Improvements, as well as the NZ$3.4 billion Auckland City Rail Link.
Associate Professor William K.S. Cheung is the Deputy Head of the Department of Property and Co-Director of the Urban Analytics and City Science Research Beacon at the University of Auckland Business School.
His research focuses on urban analytics, automated valuation models, housing, and tourism. He adopts a transdisciplinary approach and has secured significant research funding, including support through New Zealand’s National Science Challenge on building better homes, towns, and cities.
Prior to his academic career, he worked as an economist for the Hong Kong SAR Government and in CBRE’s Asia Pacific research team. He is a Chartered Surveyor (MRICS). He has held international fellowships, including a Fulbright Scholarship, an Australian Endeavour Research Fellowship, and a Clare Hall Visiting Fellowship at the University of Cambridge.
Mark is a Registered Valuer, Fellow of New Zealand Institute of Valuers, and a current member of the Professional Conduct Committee (PCC) and has presented many of the NZIV Ethics modules on behalf of the PCC. He is also a member of the Land Valuation Tribunal in Canterbury, a part time Professional Teaching Fellow at Lincoln University and runs a small valuation company.
Registered Valuer and Property Consultant
Stephen is based in Auckland and the Director of City Valuations Limited, a specialist firm providing a wide range of property valuation services with a particular focus on Auckland’s central city apartment market.
Stephen will discuss key insights from the paper he prepared for the Valuers’ Education and Integrity Foundation (VEIF) in January 2025, titled “Unit Title Valuation: Residential Apartments & Terrace Dwellings.” The session will explore the principles, challenges, and evolving considerations involved in valuing unit title properties—particularly within the Auckland market.
John is a Registered Valuer, has over forty years valuation experience, and brings to Added Valuation a wealth of knowledge which he is always willing to impart to clients and colleagues alike. John’s outstanding service to the industry has been recognised by his peers, who have honoured him with a Fellowship award of New Zealand Institute of Valuer’s in 2005.
Property Sustainability Manager
Bridget Pyc is the Property Sustainability Manager at Samson, overseeing a portfolio of properties across Auckland’s city fringe. With a foundation in building controls, she currently focuses on improving energy and water efficiency, reducing operational carbon, implementing waste solutions, and driving sustainable business practices. Passionate about the intersections of science, technology, and creativity, Bridget drives innovative strategies that enhance sustainability in property management while minimizing environmental impact.
